1 Clement: The Epistle of Clement to the Corinthians

YOUR local Scholar will likely date 1 Clement to the last decade of the first century AD, which is strange, considering that Clement identifies the Levites and the Temple as still operating in Yerushalayim. If its dating you’re after, then look no further than the deaths of Peter (Kepha) and Paul (Sha’ul) in the first few years of the 60’s. Having inherited the office of bishoprick in the wake of Kepha’s martyrdom, Clement writes a letter to the Corinthians addressing the elephant in the room. The schism in the church was over the teachings of Kepha and Sha’ul. I hope you enjoy this three-part series, reading and discussing the letter of 1 Clement, line for line. I found it extremely therapeutic to see Clement uphold Torah as Yahuah’s instructions in righteous living. I mean, if the Law was done away with, then Clement didn’t get the memo. But not only that, Clement lifted both Kepha and Sha’ul up as important members of Messiah’s body. You know what that means, don’t you? Even for Sha’ul, the Torah abides.
