Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has adamantly denied he is considering running for president in the 2028 election.
According to Axios, two individuals “familiar with his thinking” said Bannon was laying the groundwork for a presidential bid.
The outlet said Bannon “isn’t serious” about winning the 2028 election, but to pressure Republican candidates to align with an “America First” agenda.

However, Bannon told the outlet that’s “bulls***.”
The “War Room” host is more concerned about supporting a third term for President Trump, the outlet noted.
More from Axios:
“We don’t have a country if we don’t get every ounce of fight and energy from President Trump — you can drive a Mack Truck through the 22nd Amendment — and that’s exactly what I intend to do in order to save our country,” Bannon told us.
Bannon said he’s helping with an upcoming book by lawyer Alan Dershowitz, “Could President Trump Constitutionally Serve a Third Term?” The legal analysis, out in March, lays out an argument for how Trump could constitutionally serve a third term.
At the same time, Bannon quietly has taken several steps to prepare a possible campaign, the two sources familiar with his thinking say.
He has expressed interest in setting up a PAC that could spend money in midterm races and has talked with allies to see who might work for him, the sources told Axios.
Bannon appeared at events last year hosted by the Colorado and Georgia Republican parties, an indication he’s looking to curry favor with local organizers who play a role in primaries.
Former Congressman Matt Gaetz recently predicted Steve Bannon would launch a 2028 presidential bid.
Gaetz made the comments on “The Tucker Carlson Show.”
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz Says Steve Bannon Will Run For President In 2028
Breitbart shared further:
Gaetz said, “Just like the and I love Steve Bannon, so I don’t want like my our last discussion to come across as a criticism of Steve but I mean he’s going to run for president on the on just a straight, Elizabeth Warren wealth tax economic agenda.”
Carlson said, “Actually.”
Gaetz said, “Yeah. He’s going to run for president and say, take the money from those people who have way too much of it, the Bill Ackman of the world. And I want to give it to you.”
Carlson said, “I wonder if that has ever — it always seems like those people flee the country. I mean, Miami is filled with people who fled other countries, and they live in splendor. I’m not attacking them, but like, they didn’t give up their money, they just left. And then the middle class, upper middle, upper middle class, especially, just get hammered. And that is the core of your society, right?”
Gaetz said, “It won’t last that way. And, you know, Trump’s elections have been, I think, a reaction to that broader trend we’ve experienced for decades. And, you know what I hope doesn’t happen is that it just becomes a policy race to the bottom to try to, you know, throw insufficient solutions at that. You know, things like, well, we’ll just give him free houses. We’ll just give them free health care.”
