Federal authorities arrested Raymond Eugene Chandler III, a Pennsylvania man running for the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in the 2028 election cycle last week for allegedly making graphic death threats against President Donald Trump and a member of Congress.
Chandler is accused of violating federal laws related to influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official by threat.
According to an FBI affidavit, he left multiple voicemails for a congressman between April 2025 and January 2026, urging the lawmaker to assassinate Trump and threatening violence against the congressman’s family.
One voicemail dated April 29, 2025, stated: “I want you to walk into the Oval Office with a gun in your hand. I want you to put it to his [Trump’s] temple, and I want you to pull the trigger”.
Additional messages referenced threats to “personally kill” and included discussions of acquiring weapons to fight the government, according to the complaint.
His messages also include graphic depictions of violence against wealthy people, such as breaking into their homes and slitting the throats of affluent families.
Authorities described Chandler as holding far-left political views.
His campaign platform included proposals such as “Tax the Billionaires,” abolishing ICE, and implementing universal basic income.
The arrest comes amid heightened security concerns involving threats targeting Trump in 2026.
In a separate incident days earlier, authorities reported an armed attempt by another individual, identified as Cole Allen, to enter the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Also on May 1, 2026, a U.S. Army veteran, Daniel Swain, was arrested in a separate case while allegedly traveling to Washington D.C. to kill Trump.
The cases are part of ongoing enforcement actions by the U.S. Secret Service and FBI targeting threats against federal officials.
