A 22-year-old U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Polk has been charged with making violent antisemitic threats after allegedly posting on Discord that he planned to attack a synagogue.
Jakob Marcoulier faces up to five years in federal prison for transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana announced.
According to court documents, Marcoulier said he would “walk into a synagogue with my AK… and… kill every single Jew” inside, calling it his “goal in life.” The threats were flagged through an FBI tip line earlier this year, leading to an investigation involving federal agents and Army investigators.
“Threats against synagogues and Jewish Americans are threats to the religious freedom promised to every single one of us,” said U.S. Attorney Zachary Keller. FBI officials said the case highlights efforts to “prevent violent hate crime attacks… before they occur,” noting the suspect was arrested on April 23.
