Marjorie Taylor Greene Just Declared MAGA Was ‘All a Lie’ and That Donald Trump Betrayed America

Marjorie Taylor Greene

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia was, for years, one of Trump’s top loyalists in Congress. Representing a deep-red district in Georgia and first elected in 2020, Greene backed Trump during his time out of the White House, often claiming he had really won the 2020 election, and supported his return to office in 2024, when he faced a contested primary.

Someone long associated with the more conspiratorial fringes of the MAGA movement, Greene was regularly photographed in her first several years in politics wearing a MAGA hat and, during the pandemic, a MAGA facemask.

However, once Trump returned to the White House, Greene broke with him on several fronts, including the Iran War, Trump’s continued support for Israel, the president’s reluctance to release the Epstein files, and his position on crypto regulation.

In late 2025, Trump formally dropped his support for Greene, leading the Congresswoman to tell reporters that she had been “called a traitor by a man that I fought for five, no, actually, six years for, and I gave him my loyalty for free.”

After several months of sparring with Trump, and knowing she wouldn’t have his backing for another term, Greene announced last December that she would resign from Congress, and she left Washington earlier this year.

By February, Greene had declared that MAGA itself was “all a lie.”

In the months since, Greene has occasionally given TV interviews, in which she makes it clear that while she’s remained a conservative, she no longer trusts Trump.

Back in August, she met with her fellow Trump apostates Tucker Carlson, Thomas Massie, and Joe Kent, which Politico described as “sowing the seeds for a future third-party political organization.”

Now, Greene is speaking out about the midterm elections.

Trump’s Reckoning?

According to Newsweek, Greene said in a CNN appearance this week that the midterm elections will serve as a “referendum” on Trump’s “betrayal” of voters.

“I think it’s a complete referendum on Donald Trump,” Greene said of the Tuesday elections. “His betrayal was that he promised no more foreign wars and to bring world peace, and he didn’t release the Epstein files.”

Greene also chided Trump for being out of touch, especially amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, while Trump has spent time “bragging about a ballroom and his big donors and having these big fancy dinners.” Greene also criticized the president for, on the eve of the election, appearing at the Reflecting Pool in Washington rather than focusing on issues that matter more to the voters he needs to reach.

The former Congresswoman, who was herself part of the Republican House majority in the first year of Trump’s second presidency, also trashed her former colleagues.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and her erstwhile former House Republicans, Greene said, “never, ever stood up to Donald Trump and pushed their own agenda in the House of Representatives and in the Senate.”

In Greene’s deep red former district in Georgia, Rep. Clay Fuller, who won a special election to fill Greene’s seat after her resignation, will face Democrat Shawn Harris, the same candidate he defeated in the special, in Tuesday’s general election.

Fuller won the special election by 14 points in a district Trump won by 37 points in 2024.

“Like a Bad Home Salesman”

Greene later took to social media to further chide the president whom she once proudly served, including over his vow to attack Iran after the midterms possibly, his visit to the reflecting pool, and also his proposal to offer $5,000 checks to all Americans, should his party win in the midterm elections on Tuesday.

This offer comes, Greene wrote on X, after Trump spent the last two years “failing to deliver the other promised DOGE and tariff checks to the American people.”

She went on to compare Trump, who of course came up through the world of New York real estate, to “ a really bad home salesman lying and making up ridiculous claims about a piece of crap product he’s selling as he refuses to leave your living room.”
