Residents Ordered To Shelter-In-Place After Train Derailment, Hazmat Teams Respond

A train derailment in Pennsylvania on Tuesday forced residents to shelter-in-place.

The train derailed in Bensalem Township, prompting a massive response.

“Bensalem Police said officers, fire, EMS and hazmat teams are currently responding to the derailment between Street Road and the Neshaminy Falls train station,” CBS News reports.

SkyForce10 was over the scene at the train tracks between Street Road and the Neshaminy Falls Train Station shortly before 3 p.m. showing several overturned freight train cars.

At least 13 freight cars overturned. Police, firefighters, medics and Hazmat teams are currently assessing the content of the train cars. Residents in the area are being urged to stay away and shelter in place as the investigation continues.

Officials have not yet revealed the cause of the derailment or if any injuries were reported.

A staging area was set up at the Neshaminy Mall.

There are reports of one hazmat car listed as containing flammable isopropanol solution.

Police believe at least 5-10 train cars are off the tracks, and are working to determine what the train was transporting.
